Very often designers are being accused of promoting endless consumption of fashion products. Therefore, during this discussion participants will attempt to find an answer whether dominant fashion companies are capable of adapting socially responsible business practices or only small-scale establishments have the efficiency to be consistent with sustainable fashion principles? Additionally, participants will tackle the question of whether ethics are important in the fashion industry and will try to understand whether we really need to create something new when it is so easy to extend the lifespan of already existing pieces of fashion?

The first part of the discussion will focus on the features of Nordic and Lithuanian fashion design as well as prevailing trends of circular economy. The second part will be dedicated to a slightly different Q&A session. You will be provided with an opportunity to ask questions in a “fishbowl“ format. Guests will be asked to submit written questions on white paper sheets and place them in a glass aquarium. Then, the moderator of the discussion will randomly assign submitted questions to one of the participants.

All your questions will be answered by a team of participants: Steinunn Sigurðardóttir (Iceland), Guðrun Rógvadóttir (Faroe Islands), Tone Skårdal Tobiasson (Norway), Victoria Dias (Lithuania), Dainius Bendikas (Lithuania). Discussion will be moderated by Audronė Drungilaitė (Lithuania), a board member at the Lithuanian Design Forum.

The event will be held in English.
